Information stored on your device

Bookshelf stores the information needed to provide its features locally on your device, including:

• audio files, cover artwork, titles, authors, narrators, series, chapters, and other metadata you import;
• playback positions, listening status, bookmarks, notes, sleep-timer state, and playback preferences;
• import, recovery, and library-maintenance information;
• the amount of included playback used; and
• locally cached purchase-entitlement status supplied by Apple.

This information is used only to operate Bookshelf. The developer does not receive it.

Imports and local-network transfers

You choose the files Bookshelf receives through Files, AirDrop, the share sheet, iPhone Mirroring, ZIP import, or the nearby-computer receiver. The receiver runs only while its screen is open and transfers selected files directly across your local network to your device. Those transfers do not pass through a server operated by the developer.

Files may be held temporarily on your device while Bookshelf validates, groups, or recovers an import. Files and import records remain on the device until you remove them through Bookshelf, remove the app, or manage an export or backup yourself.

Purchases and Apple services

Bookshelf uses Apple StoreKit to display, purchase, restore, and redeem the one-time Full Unlock. Apple processes your Apple Account and payment information. Bookshelf receives signed product and entitlement status so it can unlock playback, but it does not receive your full payment-card details. Apple’s handling of that information is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.

Backups, diagnostics, and support

Backups, exported files, and support bundles are created only when you ask for them. They go to the destination or recipient you choose. Bookshelf minimizes support-bundle contents, but you should review any exported file before sharing it.

Support is provided through Reddit. Anything you post publicly or send using Reddit is processed under Reddit’s terms and privacy policy, not this policy. Do not send copyrighted audiobook files with a support request.

Data collection and tracking

Bookshelf contains no advertising SDK, analytics SDK, or cross-app tracking. The app does not collect personal data for the developer and does not sell or share personal data with advertisers or data brokers.

This website

This static website does not use advertising, analytics, tracking pixels, or marketing cookies. It is delivered using GitHub Pages and Cloudflare DNS and network services. Those providers may process ordinary request information, such as an IP address, browser details, and requested URL, to deliver and protect the site under their own privacy policies. Links to Apple, Reddit, LibriVox, Project Gutenberg, Libro.fm, and GitHub take you to services with their own privacy practices.

Retention and deletion

Bookshelf keeps library data until you remove books or related records, restore or replace the library, or delete the app. Files you export remain wherever you saved or shared them and must be deleted there separately.

To preserve the integrity of the device’s included 50-hour allowance, the amount of playback used is also stored in the iOS Keychain and may remain on the same device after Bookshelf is removed and reinstalled. It is not sent to the developer. Purchase records are retained by Apple under Apple’s policies.

Children

Bookshelf is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because Bookshelf plays files selected by the user, the person managing the device is responsible for the suitability of imported audio.

Changes to this policy

If Bookshelf’s data practices change, this page will be updated before those changes are represented in the app’s App Store privacy disclosures. The date at the top identifies the current version.
